It’s finally here! The cooler weather means it’s time to revitalize our gardens with compost, take out or trim back those leggy summer veggies, and start planting for Fall! This weekend we shared our second community meal while planning for our Autumn gardens at the Co-op Garden Party.
Summer goodies were featured heavily in our menu. Smoky okra and crowder peas, chicken ‘n dumpling soup and fig thumbprint cookies were the stars of the day with warm comforting bread pudding, lentil stew and cherry pie rounding out the meal.
Lesley, our Managing Director, created four-square-foot companion plant packets to take some of the guesswork out of garden planning! Here she is telling us all about how she gets ready for fall. Annelies brought a trailer load of compost for members to scoop out and take home what they need. It was so chilly we could see the steam rising off the pile!
As always with co-op garden parties, we didn’t spend all our time gabbing about our yards. We also focused on the cooperative side of our business. This month, we talked a lot about the values that we want to have guide our co-op as it grows and flourishes. Members asked for simple, accessible member services, and shared a dream of building a diverse community of people that honors the expertise and true commitment that it takes to grow a garden!
